How serious is the punishment for accessing someone’s email without their permission?

Recently one of my friends was being really distant with me, so I snooped into his email accounts to make sure he was okay. Well then I kept accessing–not interfering, just snooping. I did this off and on for a couple of months. Well his gmail recorded my logins and now he knows. I have lost my friend, and rightly so, but what legal penalties could I be facing?

Number of internships available: 30

The program is being directed to undergraduate and graduate students at Cal State Fullerton. Because the internship is centered on sales and marketing internships, we believe many of the applicants will be from the Mihayho College of Business and Economics. However, it is open to all CSUF students.
The program is being offered in partnership with the Orange County Summer Youth Employment Program and as such there are certain additional guidelines:
•Interns must be age 16-24 at the time they apply for the program.
•Applicants must be able to provide proof of legal right to work in the U.S. There are a wide variety of Right to Work documents that may be used. Further information is provided in the Application section below.
•Applicants must fall within certain income guidelines. Again, further information in the Application section below.
If selected for the program, you will simultaneously be:

Eligibility
There are two types of eligibility that the program requires as set forth by the OC Summer Youth Employment Program.
Right to Work Eligibility
There are several ways to establish Right to Work Eligibility. Many are described in the opening section of the application itself. Additional information is available at:
http://egov.ocgov.com/vgnfiles/ocgov/Community Investment/Content/SummerYouth/I-9.pdf
If you have any questions regarding RTW eligibility, please feel free to call 714-567-7528 OR TDD 711.

Income Eligibility
The OC Summer Youth Employment Program is geared toward students who have some level of financial need - typical of many CSUF students.
If you live at home with just your parents, your household income is $1,000,000 per year and your allowance is $1,000 per week, there will likely be a hurdle with regard to income eligibility.
However, if you’re like most CSUF students, you’re probably “scrambling” to make ends meet. Here are several examples of students that would qualify:
•Students that are receiving any kind of financial aid
•Students that live on their own
•Students that are financially independent
There are many other examples of students who would meet the eligibility guidelines. If you have questions, please contact us. If you are not quite sure if you meet the eligibility requirements, we would encourage you to error on the side of applying.
When filling out the questions regarding income on the application, please:
•Be truthful.
•Do NOT exaggerate or overstate your income.
While several factors are considered, a useful reference point is the set of guidelines on the following link:

Can someone get in trouble for reading email without permission?

I had my email password written down and a former friend found it. She used it to read my emails without my permission. Unfortunately, there were some inappropriate emails between her husband and I. Is what she did illegal? Can those emails be used in her divorce proceeding?

I am sure my business partner is reading my emails without my permission is this legal?

We have an external back up Company which backs up our outlook but I can not access it. I have made up some fictional information and tested if she is reading them and she has tripped up a few times by asking me questions about the info which has only been in an email and not discussed. I want to know if this is an invasion of privacy and what I can do about it if it is. She does not have my permission to read my emails.

NYS Email privacy laws and small businesses?

If someone belongs to an organization and they are accused of suspicious activity using the groups email account and if the head of the organization goes into this persons email without their permission is it illegal in NYS?

Could the U.S. ever prevent business from using customer’s personal information for marketing purposes?

The European Union has a privacy directive that prohibits businesses in EU countries from using customers’ personal information to target promotions by mail, email or telephone without customers’ prior consents. It also prohibits selling customer information without the customers’ consents. Could such a privacy directive could be enforced in the US.

Someone sent me a picture of themself in an email, am I allowed to post it online without thier permission?

I photo was sent to me and I would like to use it online, but I don’t have permission from the person who took it. I am not the only person it has been sent to though. I would also like to print it and use it.
