What does a credible survey contain? How many people are needed for the survay to be complete?

I’m writing a refutation paper in which i’m refuting an essay. The essay says that 499 people say this and that but i’m saying that 499 people for a survey is not enough nor credible. And my writing teacher agreed. But i wanna find a more credible source that says that 499 is no enough for something about a what a credible survey looks like? Thank u all :)
